Staff applications

I hope you all are having a fun Halloween weekend! I just wanted to remind all of you staff applications* are due to me (bobbi.otis@gmail.com), by Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. That's this Friday!

Applications must include:
I) Résumé
II) Short cover letter describing:
a) the position you are applying for
b) why you want the position and why you feel you would be the right person for the job
c) your future plans with The Colonnade
III) Look for an email from me by the following Monday (Nov. 7), giving you times I am available to interview you for the position and let me know promptly which one will work for you.
(IV) If you are chosen for a staff position you have to attend all Wednesday night production nights after you are selected for training. You are also required to start attending Monday editorial board meetings at noon in the office.

*Note: Don't be afraid to apply! You don't have to be extremely experienced to get a position. It's all about training here.

Props & Slops

Props & Slops

The Colonnade: October 21, 2011 Volume 88, No. 9

Props:

The graphic of the United States on the front page was great. Kudos to Taylor Seay for making it so visually interesting for the readers. It was nice to see what the debt for other schools were in comparison with GC and this graphic illustrated it perfectly.

Props to Aubrie Sofala for having three stories above the fold. It's awesome to have such great stories and layout for that to be possible.

The photography for this issue has definitely improved from past weeks. Good job with that!

The main package on the Features section was fantastic. It was a great use of many different elements to make it interactive.

Slops:
The green initiative story does not finish on the jump page.

Announcements for meeting times!

Sunday edition of Colonnade Confessions

'Ello everybody! Welcome to the Sunday edition of our blog. As you will hear in the video, we are not having a meeting this Monday because we are not going to be having a paper the week of the 28th, because a good number of the senior staff will be in Orlando, Fla., for a conference to help us improve the paper. :)

All of your stories and photos that were assigned at the last meeting are still due tomorrow, Oct. 17, by 2 p.m., unless you have a really good reason and have spoken to your editor about it.

As I have been saying in a lot of my blog posts lately, it is a good idea to stop by the office on Wednesday night (It's our last production night for awhile) if you are planning on applying for a staff position. It's a great way to see everything that goes on and to get to know the senior staff a bit more. And it's a ton of fun!

I can't wait to see all of your photos and stories tomorrow! Have a great Sunday!

The Colonnade takes on breast cancer

Hey everyone! Please watch this video and learn a little bit about the next awesome project The Colonnade is going to take on that we want YOU to be a part of.

Bras for a Cause is a fundraiser that will take place on front campus on Oct. 18. Here's the concept: you donate $10 and you get a plain bra. Then, you decorate the bra any way you want! All of the submissions will be hung on Front Campus on Oct. 18 and you can vote for your favorite one.

The Colonnade will be participating in this fundraiser, and what we want to is incorporate the names of our loved ones who have fought breast cancer onto our bra. So if you are one of our awesome writers, photographers, cartoonists, ad reps, PR people or are in ANY way affiliated with The Colonnade, let us know if you have a loved one who you want to honor, and we will put their name on the bra. Thanks so much! You all rock, and breast cancer doesn't!

Chatting with The Colonnade staffers

Hello staffers! I hope you all went to the MSCM Mixer today! It was a blast. This is just a blog of Aubrie, Lauren, Vanessa and I rambling. We hope you will come and visit us tonight, since it's our last production night for a few weeks! :)
