Oldest member of GC undergrad student body dies at 74

In an email to the Georgia College student body from Vice President for Student Affairs Bruce Harshbarger wrote:
"James T. Lenahan, at 74 the eldest member of the GC undergraduate student body, died on Tuesday after a long bout with cancer.
Jim and his wife Annette retired to Lake Sinclair in 2001 and Jim, who had not had an opportunity to complete college after a career in the Air Force, had been taking occasional classes at GC since 2003. I met Jim a couple years ago and invited him to join me for coffee at Einstein's. He was a really cool, fun guy - delightfully crusty and salty - and he introduced himself to me as the resident "Dirty Old Man on Campus." He was fully involved in local civic efforts and politics, but I especially admired his interest in continuing to work on a degree that he'd never had a chance to finish.
Mr. Lenahan took classes from time to time in English, art and history. He was enrolled this fall but withdrew earlier in the semester when the effects of his chemotherapy made it impossible to attend class. Those of us who, from time to time, might take for granted the opportunity to study on a college campus alongside talented people who care about learning might want to remember Jim's desire to pursue higher education in his retirement. Funeral services for Jim will be conducted this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Milledgeville. The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service hour to receive friends; please keep Jim and his family in your thoughts this weekend."
